A native of Lake
Providence, La , Shenequa is an attorney licensed to practice law in Louisiana
and the District of Columbia and is currently an Associate Professor of Law at
the Southern University Law Center in Baton Rouge, La, where she teaches
constitutional criminal procedure, trial advocacy, and evidence. She also teaches international
criminal law each summer in London, England as a part of the Law Center’s
Summer Abroad Program. Since joining the Law Center in 2004, she was elected 2006 SBA Professor of the Year, and serves on various committees. She serves as faculty advisor to the Black Law Students Association and Women in Law and coaches law school mock trial teams competing in state, regional, and national mock trial competitions. She has been awarded two research and writing grants to support her scholarly research and writing and has primarily published in the area of Fourth Amendment search and seizure and evidence. In addition to her scholarly publications, Shenequa also regularly makes scholarly presentations and moderates panel discussions in her field. She also regularly serves as emcee at various SULC and community events, and has been the featured speaker at community events as well. She was the commencement speaker for the 2009 L.P High School Commencement exercises where she and her family through her non-profit organization, the Grey Foundation, presented two scholarships to worthy graduating high school seniors. She was also the guest speaker at the Lake Providence Annual M.L.K Community Program.
Prior to joining the faculty of the Southern University Law Center, she worked as a Staff Attorney for the American Prosecutor's Research Institute, the research affiliate of the National District Attorney's Association in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, and then served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Caddo Parish District Attorney's office in Shreveport, Louisiana where she prosecuted a number of violent crimes and sex offenses. Her jury trial experience includes second degree murder, forcible rape, armed robbery, and numerous other felony offenses.
Furthermore, Shenequa is actively involved in several professional organizations and in July 2002 she was one of 24 women featured in Ebony magazine's article on "Super Single's"- an annual article in the publication that profiles single women across the nation. She was recently featured as the cover story of SwagHer magazine- a publication that highlights the accomplishments of professional women and was also the featured subject of a chapter in the book "I Didn't Work This Hard Just to Get Married," by, Nika C. Beamon - a book profiling single professional women across the nation.
In 2012, Shenequa collaborated with Brian Hertzock of Hertzock Entertainment to produce The Legal Roundtable legal television show as a way of combining her education and experience in the law and teaching, with her love of public speaking and broadcasting. Not only does she host the show, but she is soley responsible for producing the show's content- selecting the topics as well as guests for the show.
Shenequa received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Louisiana at Monroe in Monroe, La. and her Juris Doctor degree (cum laude) from the Southern University Law Center in Baton Rouge, La where she received the Chancellor's Award of Excellence for Outstanding Performance for successfully arguing State of Louisiana v. Raymond Laguand before the Louisiana Surpreme Court as a student attorney. She received her LL.M. (an advanced law degree) in Trial Advocacy from Temple University- Beasley School of Law in Philadelphia, Pa. where she was named the “Most Prepared Student” by her peers. She was also the top ranking graduate in her class at the Atlanta Broadcast Institute in Atlanta, Georgia where she studied radio and television broadcasting.
Shenequa brings with her a wealth of knowledge about various areas of the law as well as an abundance of energy and excitement about bringing this insight and information to the general public.
